People caught in a sleepwalking-type episode are known to mumble, shout, or carry on half-finished conversations. A 30-year-old man described in a new report did something sleep doctors say had not been documented before: while only partly roused from deep sleep, he whistled "Take Me Home, Country Roads," moving his upper body in time with the tune.
He had no memory of it afterward. He later recognized the melody as one he had recently learned, according to the report in the journal Sleep Medicine, which appeared online in September 2026.
