A Canadian man accused of murdering his partner had threatened to kill her weeks before, and was even arrested and released before allegedly carrying out his threats, according to a report.

Shilei Du, 36, allegedly killed Guangmei Ye, 29, on Nov. 7, but her body was not found until Sunday in a home in Quebec, according to reporting by CTV News Montreal. Du was arrested shortly afterward.

On Sept. 7, Du threatened to kill Ye. Du was arrested after Ye contacted police, but was later released on bail on Sept. 9 under certain conditions, including staying at least 500 meters away from Ye and 100 meters away from her workplace, investment bank Morgan Stanley, not communicating with her or contacting her on social media, and attending anger management therapy.

One of the conditions not required was wearing an ankle monitor.

"At least if the ankle bracelet was on, his actions would have been monitored, and they would have been able to see if he did, in fact, break his condition, and was in fact a few meters away from the victim," Melpa Kamateros, executive director of the Shield of Athena Family Services told CTV News Montreal.

Du will next appear in court on Nov. 19.
