Ancient platypuses with teeth once swam with dolphins in what has become the Australian outback, scientists have discovered.
Paleontologists' previous knowledge of this 25-million-year-old platypus in South Australia's Flinders Ranges came only from one-and-a-half molars.
But Flinders University researchers led by Associate Professor Trevor Worthy have doubled these findings after 20 years of sifting and picking at the land, which only formed some five million years ago.
