Everyone is getting excited for the NBA Trade Deadline because it means teams according to the league get to enter The Deal Zone.
You read that right, folks. The Deal Zone. It is a new term coined by ESPN’s Brian Windhorst. The veteran reporter appeared on ESPN’s Get Up and spoke about where things stand in a potential trade between the Philadelphia 76ers and the Brooklyn Nets.
As talks begin to heat up between the two parties, here is what Windhorst had to say:
“So the teams are absolutely engaged in trade discussions. I know that there is people saying things on the record, trying to act like that’s not happening. But it’s absolutely happening. There is definite motivation from both sides to make this fall into place.”
Windhorst then spoke about some of the trade details, like that Philadelphia is shopping Tobias Harris and that Brooklyn is also seeking a couple of other assets in addition to Simmons.
The ESPN basketball insider then delivered this undeniably iconic line:
“We are in, right now, as far as I can tell, Greenie, we’re in the deal zone between Harden and Simmons. I suspect they are gonna get it done. I’m not gonna tell you for sure they’re gonna get it done but it’s trending in that direction.”

As you could imagine, based on how catchy the phrase “deal zone” sounds for basketball fans, lots of people on NBA Twitter had something to add to the dialogue.
Ranging from jokes about The Twilight Zone or Kenny Loggins’ “Danger Zone” song from 1986, today was a good day for memes about the NBA trade deadline.
