A huge outdoor cinema event is coming to Carmarthen this summer, it has been confirmed. Adventure Cinema has announced that it will set up camp at the United Counties Showground to the west of the town centre for two nights in June.
The company promises an “outdoor experience like no other” as it plans to show two hit films as people watch outdoors on a massive screen. Adventure Cinema has also confirmed that it will put on screenings in Cardiff, Newport and Swansea this summer. You can read more about that here.
As for the Carmarthen screening, it will take place at the 52-acre showground site at Nantyci just off the A40, which was until recently home to a coronavirus mass vaccination and testing centre. The venue is around a mile west of Carmarthen and can be easily accessed if travelling from the direction of Pembrokeshire on the A40 or if coming from the east along the A48 and M4. A spokesman for Adventure Cinema said: “The UK’s largest touring outdoor cinema is back and bigger than ever for 2022! Safe and spacious open-air events at over 70 picturesque locations across the UK, from medieval castles to country estates. As ever, we like to bring you an eclectic mix of classics, musicals, big blockbusters and family films and 2022 is no different.
"Naturally, people are still cautious about attending big events, but rest assured that all our shows this summer are outdoors and naturally safe, and we will be following all relevant government guidelines. We will keep you updated with the latest measures to ensure a safe, enjoyable and stress-free experience for everyone."
Film fans are allowed to take their own food and snacks along to the event, while children under the age of two can enter for free (film certification applies). Dogs are not allowed at the screenings, apart from guide dogs, and on-site parking will be available.
It being west Wales, the weather, even in summer, cannot always be relied upon, so the company is advising moviegoers to “please check the forecast on the day of the screening and come prepared for the conditions - if it does rain we just need to call upon the Great British spirit, dress accordingly, and live for the moment!”
The films being shown outdoors in Carmarthen are Steven Spielberg’s West Side Story (12A) at 9.55pm on Friday, June 3, and Mamma Mia! (PG) at 9.55pm the following day on Saturday, June 4. Tickets cost £14.50 each if you want to bring your own chair or blanket, or there’s a £20.50 option which includes a luxury deck chair and a bag of popcorn.
