To the surprise of many, Tango Gameworks showcased a new game and released it on the same day, on January 25, 2023. “Hi-Fi Rush”, released on PC and Xbox Game Pass.
This newly welcomed game involves the sound of music and third-person action. It follows a character that goes by the name of Chai, who has a dream of being a musician one day, but realistically follows that dream by using thoughts in his head. Chai has been experimented on, leaving him with a metal arm and the ability to feel the rhythm of any and all music in his head. Often, you can catch Chai snapping to the beat of the music in the trailer, on queue with any notes that play.
Surprisingly, this rhythm adventure is a welcome sight, looking colorful like a bunch of crayons exploded on my screen. Not only that, but the art style of the game in general is reminiscent to me of games like Bomb Rush Cyberfunk and its predecessor, Jet Set Radio. Now while we don’t have roller skates in this game, as far as I know, we do have a cherry red guitar to kick some robot butt up and down to the beat of the bass.
Chai and his cyberpunk-style cat striking a rock and roll pose to ensure their musical domination.
Not only is this game fun in the sense of color palette, but striking each enemy to the beat of a song really helps keep gamers interacting in melee combat. As explained in the trailer, it is not about the combat, but more so about keeping up with the music so players can stay in tune with the beat. However, if musical prowess isn’t your thing, there is no ordeal with picking the game up to fight in regular combat and disobey musical standards. The guitar hits the same without queuing to the sound of the music as it would with it. The incentive to stick to the beat is the power-up you get from doing so, along with keeping up the combo meter in Devil May Cry-ish battle style.
808, Chai’s lovely cat partner, is there to ensure that players interact with the music, giving them accessibility options and more. Along with everything in the game being directed in the form of the background music that is playing, cut-scenes and almost anything else will sync up to the music being played as well. Even if all that jazz isn’t your style, the robotic enemies look highly stylized in the game, along with the world seeming like it is worth exploring. Tango Gameworks has created game after game, most recently revealing “Hi-Fi Rush” to everyone’s surprise.
If you want to battle it out against the robots who made Chai the way he is and help Chai get to the stardom he deserves, this game may be worth a string. Tango Gameworks is known for releasing single player titles, with games on their back such as “The Evil Within” and “Ghostwire: Tokyo”, to which many have praised.
Not only that, but the real reason to play this game, is the man behind the studio. A man of originality who has developed some of gaming’s largest franchises, Shinji Mikami. From “Resident Evil” to “Dino Crisis”, Shinji has continuously evolved with gaming over the years of releases. Heck, he even voiced a character in Fallout 4, this man is everywhere. Speaking of Fallout, you can find Fallout 76 accounts to buy here, as the game has been updated a lot. Back to Tango and Shinji, “Hi-Fi Rush” is just the most recent release in Tango Gameworks library, who produces creative games that surprise the common folk. Let’s rock and roll!
