NHS Lanarkshire is urging people to use alternative services as A&E waiting times could now be more than six hours.
The health board took to social media to notify people of the situation at A&E departments across the area.
It tweeted: ‘Winter combined with the pressures of COVID have resulted in much longer waiting times.
"People at A&E departments now face waits of more than 6 hours.
“You’re often better off staying home, looking for self-care advice online or phoning NHS 111 or your GP surgery for help.’
NHS Lanarkshire outlined other routes that can be used as an alternative to heading to A&E.
Those include using self-help guidelines online to deal with minor illnesses or conditions, heading to your pharmacist to see if they can help is also encouraged in the first instance.
The next steps for residents include making an appointment with their GP or phoning NHS 24 if you are too ill to wait.
The long wait times across A&E departments are being put down to pressures from winter illnesses and COVID.
