A&E doctor's week from hell after poo and loo roll fill garden

An A&E doctor was forced to keep his children away from the back garden after it "filled with poo and loo roll", scuppering any plans he had for the Bank Holiday weekend. Omar Adam said he started to notice a problem when a drain outside his home began to "clog up" and leave an "awful smell" last month.

The problem got a lot worse though on Saturday, April 23, when the NHS doctor walked into his back garden to find it "filled with s**t". Doctor Adam said he pleaded with Yorkshire Water to fix the problem but a week later it still remained. It scuppered his plans to have friends and family round to his Sheffield home to celebrate Eid, something Doctor Adam was going to do by hosting a long-planned celebration in his garden reports Yorkshire Live.

The blocked drain also left Mr Adam scratching his head as it was clogged with toilet roll but he said his family "don't use it" and use water instead to clean themselves after going to the toilet. Doctor Adam said the "awful" smell got even worse whenever his family used the kitchen.

Doctor Adam has been forced to pay £200 so that a maintenance man could come and inspect the problem. He discovered that it's been caused by tree roots blocking the drain.

Dad-of-three Doctor Adam was advised to contact Yorkshire Water, which he says he did on Saturday, April 23, and was told someone would be "in touch".

The doctor said it got to Monday, through Tuesday and Wednesday and still no one had come with the company saying they couldn't promise a date or time, or even give him an explanation as to why it was taking so long.

Even though they promised to sort the issue out within a four-day emergency limit it was over a week that the family had to cope with the "unbearable" smell and "s**t is going over the patio and running to the garden."

He said: "I am not the landlord I am the tenant I shouldn’t have to deal with it - this should be treated as an emergency."

Doctor Adam added that the smell spread across the street and his neighbours reported to him that they could smell it too. What's more, the issue has caused Omar to cancel his Eid celebrations this year.

He said he had invited all of his family to their Sheffield home on Bank Holiday Monday to enjoy the back garden - but the smell was so bad the children couldn't even play in the garden.

A representative for Yorkshire Water told YorkshireLive they had now been to the property to solve the issue. They said: "We know this type of issue can be unpleasant and would like to apologise to our customer that the clear-up took longer than usual.

"We have visited the property, cleared a blockage of wet wipes and sanitary items that was stuck in the sewer and cleaned the mess away."
