The reason your permanent crown takes weeks is not that the dentist is slow. It is that somewhere in a laboratory, a printed ceramic cap sits in a furnace, with plastic burned out of it at a deliberately punishing crawl, and that step alone can run for 100 hours.
Engineers at the University of Texas at Dallas have compressed it to under 30 minutes. Their method, described in the September 2025 print edition of Ceramics International and announced in October, targets the stage that has kept printed zirconia out of dental offices.
