Why are we talking about Coming to America when the Eddie Murphy classic came out 35 years ago (yes, if you want to feel old, remind yourself that the movie was released in 1988)?
Because it was in that movie that Murphy’s Prince Akeem tries to talk football with his boss, Cleo McDowell (played by the great John Amos) … and it perfectly lined up with what happened on Monday night between the New York Giants and Green Bay Packers.
OK, fine, it’s not THAT crazy. But the Giants did take on “the Packers of Green Bay” and New York won thanks to a late field goal.
A most ripping victory, indeed. Everyone noticed:

“Sir, I was wondering, did you catch the professional football contest on television last night?
“it was a most amazing game. The Giants of New York took on the Packers of Green Bay. The Giants triumphed by kicking a pigskin ball through a big "H". A most gripping victory.” pic.twitter.com/TKO2xfZG18— Peter Botte (@PeterBotte) December 12, 2023
