Emergency doctors examining a 45-year-old woman who had been found unconscious noticed a wound running all the way around her scalp. A CT scan then showed something stranger: a ring-shaped band of eroded bone circling her skull.
The culprit was an ordinary cloth headband. During surgery, doctors found it had become embedded in her scalp, and weeks of pressure had worn away the bone beneath it. The case is described in a report indexed in the National Library of Medicine's PubMed database.
