A newly built French style estate in Rancho Santa Fe, California, has hit the market for $29 million, and no one has ever lived in it, according to a report by Realtor.com.
The property, called Maison de Campagne spans 10,363 square feet on 3.66 acres. It has five bedrooms and eight bathrooms, along with a separate guest house, and comes fully furnished with antiques, gallery bought art and custom made furniture.
Who built the estate
The estate was designed by Barbara Lee Grigsby, who is listed as the current owner and designer of the property. She worked with a team of master artisans and sourced materials from across the world to give the newly built home the feel of a much older French countryside manor.
She brought in antique roof tiles mainly from France. The wide oak flooring was milled from reclaimed stock. Limestone and marble pieces were hand picked, and the ironwork and lighting fixtures were custom made. Grigsby also worked in centuries old architectural elements that she felt would be nearly impossible to source again once construction was done.
What the house looks like inside
The primary suite takes up an entire wing of the home. It has a four poster bed and a freestanding French bateau tub, along with enough closet space for a large wardrobe. The laundry room has two washers, two dryers and a folding island.
The common areas mix old world French character with a practical, everyday layout. The dining table seats ten guests, and the kitchen opens into a family living space with its own fireplace. The kitchen has professional grade appliances alongside antique pieces, a large island, built in hutches with china already in place, and a pantry stocked with serving utensils, glassware and storage.
Outside, the property has a zero edge pool and spa, gardens and wide terraces with mountain views. The separate guest house is stone built with its own kitchen and bedroom.

One of the more unusual parts of this listing is that the home is being sold fully furnished. The art, antiques and custom furniture all stay. So does the china in the hutches, the glassware in the pantry and the place settings in the credenza drawers.

Despite the old world detailing, the house has no long family history behind it. It was built new, then filled with centuries old objects and materials to give it the feel of a home that had been lived in for generations. Realtor.com reported that despite all this, the estate has never actually been lived in.
The listing describes the property as "un coin de paradis", which translates to a corner of paradise. Maison de Campagne is located within the Rancho Santa Fe Covenant, a residential community known for its country club style lifestyle, with equestrian trails, dining and shopping nearby at The Village.
For now, the $29 million estate sits ready and waiting, fully furnished down to the last piece of cutlery, for a buyer who only needs to bring their own clothes.
