The Alzheimer's Association today launched a $100 million global clinical trial designed to answer one of the most consequential questions in aging medicine: can combining a GLP-1 receptor agonist drug with a proven lifestyle intervention actually prevent dementia?
The trial — named PROTECT-Cog, which stands for Prevention of Risk fOr cogniTive dEcline through Combined Therapy — was announced for the first time today at the Alzheimer's Association International Conference (AAIC) 2026 in London. The conference, running July 12–15, draws nearly 12,000 researchers and health-care professionals from around the world.
