A 93-year-old Massachusetts man riding a tricycle was struck and killed by a vehicle over the weekend in Merrimac, according to police.
A juvenile was driving the vehicle that struck the man, Merrimac Police said. The driver stayed at the scene after the crash and cooperated with police.
Shortly after 5 p.m. ET on Saturday, Merrimac Police received a report of a pedestrian on a tricycle that was struck near his residence on Bartlett Street. The 93-year-old man was later identified as Robert Whitcomb, of Merrimac.
Whitcomb was transported to Portsmouth Hospital, where he later died from his injuries.
The crash remains under investigation by the Merrimac Police Department and the Massachusetts State Police Collision Analysis and Reconstruction Section, with assistance from the Essex District Attorney’s Office.
Police said in a statement, “The Merrimac Police Department’s thoughts are with the victim’s family.”
