The Cleveland Browns now have to replace Bill Callahan and find a new offensive line coach. Will they look internally at Scott Peters, or will they go for another seasoned coach like Mike Munchak?
Pro Football Hall of Famer Joe Thomas has already stated he is not interested in taking any coaching jobs until his kids are in college. This means the Browns will have their work cut out for them as they look to replace one of the best in the business.
They have already replaced their offensive coordinator, hiring Ken Dorsey, their running backs coach, adding Duce Staley, and their tight ends coach, bringing in former Alabama offensive coordinator Tommy Rees to fill that role.
With one position left to fill, how will the Browns look to get the job of replacing a legend done? Here are 10 potential candidates the Browns could target as they look to round out their offensive staff after an offseason of turnover.
Browns AOL coach Scott Peters
Peters has been on the Cleveland staff for the last four seasons with Callahan as his assistant offensive line coach. Known for his unique ability to use mixed martial arts to teach offensive linemen how to use their hands on the field, Peters may be ready to take the next step forward and replace his mentor.
Former Seahawks OL coach Andy Dickerson
As the Seahawks moved on from Pete Carroll and brought in Mike MacDonald, they allowed their staff to look for other jobs. Dickerson interviewed with the Browns as an offensive coordinator candidate, but they could give the former Seahawks offensive line coach and run game coordinator another look to join their staff.
Long-time OL coach Mike Munchak
Munchak is a legend.
He has been out of coaching for two years but is open to a return to the right fit. Could taking ahold of one of the best offensive lines over the last four years be the opportunity to seasoned coach is looking to take on?
Patriots AOL coach (and former Browns lineman) Billy Yates
One former Browns lineman said he didn’t want the gig, but there is another who is currently the assistant offensive line coach in New England. He has been an assistant offensive line coach for the last four seasons and could be ready to take the leap.
It does not hurt that he played his last two seasons in brown and orange.
Saints AOL coach and former Pro Bowl lineman Jahri Evans
Want a former All-Pro to take on the job?
Thomas might have said no, but four-time All-Pro Jahri Evans is currently coaching with the New Orleans Saints as their assistant offensive line coach. 2022, however, was his first year coaching as he joined the Saints as an intern before getting hired on the staff in 2023.
Eagles AOL coach Roy Istvan
If there is an offensive line coach in the league who is revered as much as Bill Callahan, Jeff Stoutland is that man. So why not go after his assistant offensive line coach? Roy Istvan has spent the last five seasons of his 34-year coaching career under Stoutland with the Philadelphia Eagles.
He has spent the majority of his career at the college level before 2019 but could be ready to take on an NFL offensive line coaching gig.
Colts AOL coach Chris Watt
A former third round pick out of Notre Dame, the playing career of Chris Watt lasted just four years as he retired in 2017 He has been coaching since 2020, however, spending the last year with the Indianapolis Colts and currently holds the title of assistant offensive line coach.
Watt has been the offensive line coach at the college level, but if he were hired this would be his first NFL lead offensive line coaching gig,
Rams AOL coach Zak Kromer
Hiring away Los Angeles Rams’ assistants is the new craze. Could the Browns get in on that action? The Rams have a fresh and diverse run game, so bringing in Zak Kromer to replace Callahan could bring in a fresh perspective for head coach Kevin Stefanski and his staff.
Kromer has coached in the NFL for eight seasons, starting as a quality control coach and offensive assistant before being named as the assistant offensive line coach in Los Angeles this past season.
Rams offensive assistant Nick Jones
Nick Jones has coached in the NFL for four seasons and currently serves as an offensive assistant in Los Angeles. He has specifically worked with the Rams’ offensive line during his tenure on the West Coast.
Jones was a four-year letterman at the University of Georgia and has a plethora of coaching experience at the college level, including coaching special teams, tight ends, and offensive tackles.
