The NFL’s deadline for teams to use the franchise or transition tag came and went on Tuesday. The Arizona Cardinals did not use any again, as they have not since 2020. But if you were getting excited about the potential free agents available, as is usually the case, some of the best ones are not going to be free agents.
In all, eight players were given the franchise tag and another was given the transition tag.
The non-exclusive franchise tag (all eight were non-exclusive) pays a high fully guaranteed salary, allows the original team to match any offer another team gives the player and, if they opt not to match the offer, to receive two first-round picks as compensation.
It also allows the team to negotiate a long-term deal until a set deadline in July.
The transition tag pays a slightly lower fully guaranteed salary and allows the team to match an offer made by another team but does not give compensation if it opts not to match it.
These are the players who were tagged and how much they will make in 2024 if they play on the tag.
