Men over 50 often carry a surprising amount of family information around in their heads, from where the important documents sit to which account pays the electric bill. The trouble starts when everyone assumes somebody else knows the details, and suddenly a simple question turns into a scavenger hunt involving filing cabinets, old passwords, and three increasingly desperate phone calls.
This does not mean handing the family a 400-page instruction manual or announcing a dramatic “family meeting” with a stack of folders. It means making sure the people who may need important information can actually find it, especially when stress, illness, travel, or an emergency makes clear thinking much harder. A little organization now can save a family from a whole lot of confusion later.
