One of the happiest and most colourful holidays in India is Diwali which is also known as the Festival of Lights. Families gather during this time to celebrate the win of knowledge over ignorance, good over evil, and light over darkness. Diwali, also called Deepavali, is a celebration of a new beginning and the victory of optimism in our lives. This year Diwali is falling on October 31st and November 1st.
The most popular story surrounding Diwali is the one about Lord Rama, Sita, and Lakshmana returning to Ayodhya after defeating the demon king Ravana. Oil lamps, which represented the win of good over evil and the eradication of darkness, were lit by the people of Ayodhya to celebrate their return.
