74-year-old driver 'was more than six times legal booze limit'

A GREENOCK man accused of being in charge of a car whilst intoxicated was more than six times the booze limit, it is alleged.

Seventy-four-year-old John Fraser is charged with being behind the wheel of a Vauxhall Viva car near his home on Murdieston Street when the proportion of alcohol in his system was 134mcg per 100ml of breath.

The legal limit in Scotland is 22mcg/100ml.

The alleged offence is said to have been committed on April 8.

Fraser pleaded not guilty through lawyer Edward Sweeney at Greenock Sheriff Court and a trial has been scheduled for September 10.
