70mph winds hitting UK named Storm Mathis

The weather system currently bringing 70mph winds and heavy rain to parts of the Uk has been named Storm Mathis. The storm has been named by the French weather service, with the UK Met Office issuing yellow weather warbings for high wind and heavy rain across the south of England and south Wales.

The Met Office said residents of Cornwall and Devon may see the worst weather and people should keep an eye on the forecast.

A spokesman told the PA news agency: “We are expecting a spell of very unsettled winds on Thursday and Friday as an area of low pressure moves in from northern France.
