7 Yard Features That Can Become Liability Problems During Storms
Patio furniture, yard debris, tree branches, grills, and other outdoor items can become dangerous during severe storms, so secure or remove them before bad weather arrives – Shutterstock

A backyard can look perfectly harmless on a sunny afternoon, yet the same yard can turn into a collection of flying, falling, sliding, or flooding hazards when a serious storm rolls through. Patio furniture, loose branches, decorations, grills, and even clogged drains can create problems that extend beyond the property line.

That matters because storm damage does not always stop at a fence. A loose chair can strike a neighbor’s property, a neglected tree limb can fall across a walkway, and a decorative feature can become airborne debris. Liability depends heavily on the facts and the law in the applicable state, but basic storm preparation offers a simple goal: remove obvious hazards before the weather gets ugly.
