It’s set to be a very busy week for new movies across the best streaming services. Over the coming days, the biggest platforms around will be competing for your attention with Netflix, HBO Max, Hulu, Peacock and Disney+ all offering new flicks for subscribers to enjoy.
With so many options, it’s hard to know where to start, but I suspect the biggest hit of the week will be the new rom-com “Office Romance” on Netflix, which stars “Ted Lasso’s” Brett Goldstein alongside Jennifer Lopez. However, if a glossy rom-com isn’t your speed, there’s overlooked horror “Hokum” on premium streaming, Pixar’s latest family adventure “Hoppers” on Disney Plus, and “Pillion” on HBO Max, an erotic drama with Alexander Skarsgård.

‘Hokum’ (PVOD)
It’s been a fantastic year for new horror movies, and while “Obsession” and “Backrooms” currently have a lock on the box office, supernatural chiller “Hokum” didn’t quite get its own moment in the spotlight. That’s a shame, as this horror flick, directed by Damian McCarthy, is one that genre fans won’t want to miss. Even as a horror veteran desensitized to the genre’s usual tricks, there’s a large section of this movie that really freaked me out.
Ohm Bauman (Adam Scott) is an American author crippled by writer’s block. To remedy this, he takes a trip to rural Ireland, specifically to spread his parents' ashes at the hotel where they honeymooned several decades previously. Once on location, Ohm learns of local superstitions that claim a ghostly witch haunts the honeymoon suite. In classic horror movie fashion, he decides to investigate, leading to an evening of spooky apparitions.

‘I Swear’ (PVOD)
“I, Swear” is something of an infamous movie. Due to the unfortunate (and unacceptable) events at the 2026 BAFTAs, the actual movie has been lost in the fallout. Hopefully, its arrival on premium streaming in the U.S. this week will shift the conversation, as the film itself deserves recognition. It stands as an excellent biographical comedy-drama that highlights the very real struggles faced every day by those dealing with Tourette's syndrome.
Inspired by the real-life story of John Davidson, a working-class Scot and Tourette's awareness campaigner, “I, Swear” sees Robert Aramayo play Davidson. Aramayo gives an award-winning performance that will be eligible for consideration at next year’s Oscars. The movie follows Davidson’s life, from his schoolyard struggles in the 1980s through to grappling with Tourette's as an adult and becoming a campaigner to raise awareness of the disorder. This movie is often very funny, but most of all, it's heartwarming and inspirational.

‘Hoppers’ (Disney+)
Pixar’s latest family movie has all the hallmarks of the beloved animation studio. A cast of adorable and likeable characters? Check. A sweet story with an emotional pull? Check. Some of the best animation in the business? Double-check. If you wanted to be cynical, you could accuse it of being Pixar on autopilot, but the studio’s formula has been delighting viewers of all ages for decades, and it’s hard to see “Hoppers” as anything but charming.
Mabel Tanaka (voiced by Piper Curda) is a rebellious teenager with a love of animals and nature passed down to her by her grandma. When the mayor of Beavertown announces plans to convert a forest glade, which is deeply special to Mabel, into a freeway, the teen springs into action. Discovering a scientific program that lets her inhabit the body of a beaver, she steps into the animal kingdom to lead the charge against the mayor’s plans.

‘Office Romance’ (Netflix)
Brett Goldstein is building a streaming dynasty. After starring in “Ted Lasso,” he went on to co-create the equally acclaimed series “Shrinking” for Apple TV. Now he’s taking his talents to Netflix as a co-writer of this new romantic comedy, which centers around, you’ve guessed it, an office romance. Goldstein stars as the male lead and is paired up with Jennifer Lopez to form a ludicrously attractive coupling. My vibe check is that critics might not embrace this new streaming original, but I have little doubt it’ll soar to Netflix No. 1.
Jackie Cruz (Lopez) is the demanding CEO of Air Cruz airline. She runs a very tight ship with a strict no-workplace-relationship policy. Forget working hard and playing hard, Jackie is all work. However, when lawyer Daniel Blanchflower (Goldstein) joins the company, the two have instant chemistry, which soon blossoms into a full-blown romance. Naturally, this creates a headache as Jackie has to pick between business and pleasure.

‘Keeper’ (Hulu)
Speaking of dynasties, Osgood Perkins is quickly becoming one of the top names in the horror genre. After helming “Longlegs” and “The Monkey” and producing the current No. 1 movie in North America, “Backrooms,” Perkins is becoming a bankable filmmaker. However, his 2025 effort “Keeper” is perhaps something of an anomaly in that regard, as this folk-style horror came and went without much fanfare. Maybe it’ll pick up steam now that it’s heading to Hulu.
Starring Tatiana Maslany and Rossif Sutherland, “Keeper” centers on a free-spirited artist, Liz (Maslany), who is taken to a remote cabin in the countryside by her boyfriend (Sutherland) to celebrate the couple's first anniversary. Once in the secluded setting, terrifying visions haunt Liz, and that’s just the start of this nightmare trip. “Keeper” was no critical darling (it scores just 50% on Rotten Tomatoes), but it could be worth a watch if you’re looking for seriously unsettling moments, as it packs quite a few.

‘Pillion’ (HBO Max)
A word of warning: do not watch “Pillion” with your parents. This extremely erotic drama leaves almost nothing to the imagination and would likely lead to some very uncomfortable silences. Still, for all the headlines it made for its graphic scenes, there’s a lot more to “Pillion.” For starters, you’ve got an immaculate performance from Alexander Skarsgård, playing an effortlessly cool biker. Oh, and the movie is gorgeously shot as well.
Colin (Harry Melling) is an introvert working a menial job and struggling with self-confidence. His world is changed after an encounter with Ray (Skarsgård), who is pretty much the polar opposite. When Ray decides to take on Colin as his submissive, the once timid Colin begins to come out of his shell and discovers a whole new side of himself. This is no “50 Shades of Grey” situation, as “Pillion” scores an impressive 99% on Rotten Tomatoes.

‘Lorne’ (Peacock)
“Saturday Night Live” has left an undeniable imprint on the world of comedy and television as a whole, and for almost all of its five-decade run, producer Lorne Michaels has been guiding the ship from the wings. His eye for spotting comedic talent is legendary, and this documentary from Academy Award-winner Morgan Neville (“20 Feet from Stardom,” “Won’t You Be My Neighbor?”) highlights the producer extraordinaire.
With input from a host of SNL favorites, including Tina Fey, Alec Baldwin, Chris Rock, Steve Martin, Seth Meyers, Kristen Wiig, Andy Samberg and more (so many more), “Lorne” is a loving tribute to the often-unseen force behind the scenes who shaped comedy and culture for generations. It’s a documentary that will appeal to “Saturday Night Live” superfans and those less familiar with the sketch show alike. Just don’t expect this documentary to ask any hard-hitting questions, as it’s more of an affectionate celebration of Lorne Michaels career.
