Smartphones remember a lot, and unfortunately, they also remember permissions that made sense three years ago but make very little sense today. That forgotten weather app may still know where the phone lives, an old shopping app may still have access to photos, and a social app that rarely gets opened may still have permission to use the microphone.
A quick permission cleanup can reduce unnecessary access without requiring a new phone, complicated software, or a weekend spent becoming a cybersecurity detective. Both iPhone and Android let owners review and revoke many app permissions through privacy or app settings.
