7 metre tall sculpture in south Dublin park gets mixed reaction as it is dubbed 'modern mobile mast'

A new sculpture set to be unveiled in a south Dublin park has gotten a mixed reaction with one person dubbing it a ""modern mobile mast".

The seven metre tall structure is described as a "slender aluminium sculpture" with a "simple stacked cellular grid" by a local social media page.

'Bushy', as it is called, is located in the woodland setting of Bushy Park between the ornamental duck pond and the waterfall to the north-east of the park.

The structure is part of Dublin City Council's Sculpture Dublin which has seen a number of sculptures placed across the city including the temporary piece on O'Connell's Plinth outside City Hall.

'Bushy' is said to "enhance the reflective and meditative environment" of the duck pond which it over looks.

Dublin City Council's description of the sculpture read: "Corban Walker has created an elegant, large-scale work based on many configurations of a cellular grid.

"The interplay between projecting and recessed sections of the sculpture will create a lively, joyful vision of simplicity that belies the complexity of its making. Standing at over 7 metres high, the minimalist work will enhance the reflective and meditative environment of the duck pond and assert itself as a distinctive new feature of the park."

There was a mixed reaction from Facebook users and pages in the reply section of the post.

Councillor Anne Feeney commented under the post: "Delighted that Bushy Park was selected for this Sculpture Dublin artwork."

Another user said: "Looks a bit like a modern mobile mast."

A third said: "Great another thing to destroy."

A fourth Facebook user said: "Delighted to see this going in!"

A few others said it was a "waste of taxpayers' money".
