7 DWP money saving discounts and grants for Universal Credit claimants as cost of living hikes

With inflation at 10.1%, and rising food and fuel costs, the cost of living crisis is hitting everyone in their pockets. Some help is available though and people claiming Universal Credit may be able to take advantage of certain schemes aimed at claimants.

Depending upon personal circumstances, there could be assistance ranging from council tax reductions to reduced bills, cash towards energy bills and grants for mothers. Those on Universal Credit can also access things like grants from the Household Support Fund, which can be worth a few hundred pounds depending on where you live.

The Department for Work and Pensions (DWP), says that "if you’re in financial difficulties, you can get help and advice from the government, local councils and other organisations." Adding that new claimants for the benefit who do not have enough to live on while you wait for your first payment "can ask for an advance payment" after they've made a claim.
