7 Best Things To Buy at Target for Less Than $20

Want to save money without sacrificing great quality on essential items? Go on a Target shopping run — yes, really.

The best deals on groceries, household cleaning supplies and much more are hidden in plain sight. Check out seven departments with essentials under $20 that it pays to get at Target. And if you’re a retiree, see which in-store buys are worth stocking up on.

Target

Household Cleaning Supplies

Target regularly offers deals on household cleaning supplies, including coupons and discounts available through the Target Circle membership. If you’re shopping on a $20 or less budget, remember to take the size of the item you’re purchasing into consideration to ensure the product is eligible.

Because these discounts vary, check the Target app and website to see what’s being offered and the deal’s expiration date. A few household essentials now on sale include Dawn Platinum Plus PowerSuds dish soap ($5.19) which is eligible for a $2 Target Circle Coupon discount.

Not a Target Circle member? The big-box retailer also runs in-store sales like 50% off up&up’s fresh linen liquid laundry detergent. This discount is valid on 40- and 92-ounce bottles.

Target

Socks

It has never been more affordable to refill the sock drawer.

Stock up on men’s, women’s and kids’ socks at Target under the Dealworthy brand for the lowest prices and best overall value. A 10-pack of women’s low-cut socks retails for $8. That comes out to spending $1.25 per pair: an absolute bargain.

Target

Underwear

While you’re buying socks, don’t forget to add inexpensive underwear to your shopping cart.

The best underwear deals are also available via Dealworthy for women, boys and girls. A three-pack of boys’ boxer briefs costs $5, or $1.67 per pair.

Target

Good & Gather Groceries

Frugal shoppers will find better grocery prices through Target’s in-house brand Good & Gather than if they stuck to name brands.

Good & Gather groceries come highly recommended by shoppers and are usually bestsellers. Don’t miss the pot-size spaghetti for $1.29 with enough dry spaghetti noodles to feed the entire family. And the next time egg prices spike, savvy shoppers can combat higher costs by buying a dozen cage-free brown eggs priced at $3.19.

Target

Good & Gather Baby Food

The majority of Good & Gather’s baby food, including biscuits and teething wafers, cost $5 or less. Baby food pouches retail for $0.99 to $1.49 apiece while cups (like the pear blueberry flavor) are available for $0.89 each.

As an added bonus, this lineup is largely organic and filled with every nutritious veggie and fruit under the sun like carrots, kiwis, spinach, mangos and so many more.

Target

Dinnerware for Adults and Kids

It’s always a good idea to shop the Room Essentials and Pillowfort brands for the biggest dinnerware savings.

Target shoppers can purchase singular dinnerware pieces, like bowls, tumblers and plates, for as little as 50 cents apiece. We highly recommend Pillowfort’s plastic divided kids’ plate. It’s perfectly sized for little eaters who would rather not have their food touch and won’t break the bank at 50 cents per plate.

Target

School Supplies

Few big-box retailers can compete with Target for the cheapest back-to-school supplies.

Student essentials like crayons, markers, glue, notebooks, folders and many more are often at their lowest prices in August and September from major name brands and in-house ones like up&up.

Shoppers can still score incredible deals year-round on school supplies. A 24-count box of Crayola crayons has been marked down to $1.19 for 20% savings. And most up&up supplies, like No. 2 pencils and plastic folders with prongs, retail for under $2 each. Consider buying supplies you see on sale now for a lighter credit card statement later.

Editor’s note: Prices and availability are accurate as of Jan. 14, 2026, and are subject to change.
