An updated statement from school officials revealed that a total of 64 individuals were arrested as police dismantled a protest encampment at the University of California, San Diego, campus. Out of the arrested individuals, 24 were not affiliated with the university, as indicated in the statement.
The statement further mentioned that the arrested students have either been placed under immediate interim suspension or will face such action.
The operation to dismantle the encampment was carried out around 6 a.m. PT by the UC San Diego Police Department, California Highway Patrol, and the San Diego County Sheriff’s Department. University officials described the process as successful and peaceful.
According to an earlier statement, the decision to clear the site was made due to potential dangers arising from a prolonged event, including concerns related to health, fire hazards, safety, and security.
