Kenny Shiels has never been one to shy away from a bold opinion and the Northern Ireland women's boss has hit the headlines again.
Shiels blamed his side's inability to keep out a flurry of goals in a 5-0 defeat against England as the result of women being "too emotional".
The former Kilmarnock gaffer made the outlandish comment after the Women's World Cup qualifier on Tuesday: "‘In the women’s game, I’ve noticed, as I’m sure you’re aware, if you go through the patterns...
‘When a team concedes a goal they concede a second one in a very, very short period of time, right through the whole spectrum of the women’s game, because girls and women are more emotional than men."
He has since publicly apologised for his comments but it's not the first time his words have prompted a double take.
Record Sport takes a look at some of his most controversial moments.
Tries to field a suspended player
In December 2012, Kilmarnock manager Shiels planned on fielding Manuel Pascali against Celtic, despite the fact that the defender had not yet completed a suspension.
Shiels reckoned Pascali had been punished enough as his initial sending off came three minutes into an SPL clash with St Johnstone - which lasted 93 minutes with injury time - and then missed the Scottish Cup tie with Queen of the South.
He later said: "I don't want it to appear I was joking. The interview regarding Manuel was genuine.
"I was quite consistent that I was going to play him and didn't say to anyone else it was a wind-up.
"Having had time to consider what I said it's unlikely I will play him because the consequences for the player and the club wouldn't have been in the best interests of Manuel or Kilmarnock."
Paulo Sergio feud
Shiels had a long-standing feud with former Hearts boss Paulo Sergio after the pair exchanged words in several heated press conferences and even refused to shake hands.
Sergio was involved in an angry confrontation with Shiels’ son Dean at the end of a 1-1 draw at Rugby Park in 2012 when the pair had to be dragged apart.
And Shiels also enraged Sergio when he gave his opinion on barmy ex-Jambos owner Vladimir Romanov's call to freeze out keeper Marian Kello, adamant the Portuguese boss should have walked in protest.
He said: "I have no sympathy for him. If you have principles in your life and your job is to select the team and that power is taken away from you then you have to leave.
“If my chairman was trying to pick my team I would walk away because he has taken my job away from me."
Sergio then fired back calling him a "clown", before sarcastically insisting countryman Jose Mourinho should be learning from Shiels.
Asked if he'd shake his hand upon the next meeting between Hearts and Killie, Sergio fired back: "His hand, his neck..."
Banned over Celtic blast
Shiels was hit with a four-game touchline suspension after being found guilty of bringing the game into disrepute following controversial comments about Scottish champions Celtic in 2013.
He claimed Celtic had “massive influence” over disciplinary hearings, branding them as “the monster of Scottish football”.
Shiels was found guilty of breaching two SFA rules; bringing the game into disrepute and failing to act in the best interests of the game by calling into question the judicial panel and questioning the integrity of another member club.
Fourth official's 'fabrication'
Shiels accused match official Andrew Dallas of an "outrageous fabrication" of evidence against him in 2012.
Dallas was the fourth official in Killie's league match against St Johnstone, and Shiels claimed he invented a story that led to him being dismissed.
"I was totally exonerated, yet I had to sit in the stand for a whole game," was Shiels' view of the SFA panel's decision.
"I brought in evidence to disprove the fourth official, who fabricated stuff to try and incriminate me. I don't like that.
"I'm not going to lie down to these people."
Lenny likens him to Brent
Neil Lennon once likened Shiels to The Office character David Brent after he labelled Celtic ‘Paranoid FC’.
The former Parkhead boss was upset by the absence of any Celtic players from the Professional Footballers Association Scotland Player of the Year shortlist at the end of the 2012/13 season.
That prompted Shiels to say: "Celtic make a song and dance about everything, don’t they? Paranoid FC."
Lennon responded by saying: "Kenny has always had plenty to say about our club.
"He likes to ramble on in little monologues, he is a bit like David Brent sometimes. He is an unconscious comedian.
"Nothing surprises me from Kenny. He has had a couple of barbed comments about my team and the club over the last couple of years so he must have a personal agenda."
Morton sign-off
Finally, Shiels admitted in May 2014 that he faced no option but to resign from Morton a humiliating 10-2 defeat to Hamilton Academical.
The result was the worst he had ever suffered as a manager and he was even ridiculed by Paul Hartley for his comments after the result.
"After that defeat on Saturday, Morton wouldn't be able to move on, I don't think, with me still in place," said Shiels.
"I had to appreciate the club needed mental refurbishment, so I had to leave. With me still there, I think selling season tickets would have been more difficult."
Hartley waded in by likening the result to an amateur team.
