Plantar Fasciitis: The Foot Injury That Starts as Morning Pain
The first sign is a stabbing sensation in the heel the moment a guard puts weight on his foot after a rest break. That is plantar fasciitis, inflammation of the thick band of tissue running along the bottom of the foot. A 2019 study published in the journal Occupational Medicine found that workers who stand on hard surfaces for more than six hours daily have a significantly elevated risk of plantar fasciitis compared to sedentary workers. For guards posted on concrete floors in malls, factories, or apartment complexes across cities like Bengaluru and Gurugram, the surface never changes and neither does the load. The fascia takes repeated stress with no recovery window. Over months, micro-tears accumulate faster than the tissue can heal. Standard-issue footwear, thin-soled, flat, chosen for appearance rather than support, accelerates the damage. By the time the pain becomes impossible to ignore, the condition has usually been building for six months or longer.
