A 56-year-old construction worker has died after becoming submerged in water while working on a water main near Long Island's largest shopping centre in New York.

Rafael Peralta, from Babylon, was working beneath Ring Road outside Roosevelt Field mall in East Garden City when a water main break flooded the underground work area at approximately 11:13am on Friday, 9 October, according to Nassau County police and News 12.
