50 women’s autumn wardrobe updates for under £300 (some are even free)

Aimee Song wears long wavy dark brown hair with center part, black rectangular sunglasses, small gold hoop earrings, a gold chain bracelet, a brown leather shoulder bag, a distressed brown suede oversized blazer jacket, an olive-green wool crewneck sweater, a white cotton T-shirt with visible hem, grey wool wide-leg trousers, outside Miu Miu, during Paris Fashion Week, 6 October 2025 in Paris, France.

It’s easy to romanticise autumn dressing. From shows such as Gilmore Girls and Sex and the City, cosy Meg Ryan movie masterpieces, including Sleepless in Seattle and You’ve Got Mail, and social media, you’re given the illusion that the season mainly consists of sauntering along leaf-strewn streets, pumpkin spice latte in hand, while wearing snug layers.

The reality is more startling: getting up in the dark, leaving the office in the dark, arguments about whether it’s too soon to turn on the heating, and growing bored with eating soup.
