The high-flying Wrexham continued their wonderful season with a convincing victory over lowly-ranked Yeovil Town.
In the absence of co-owner Ryan Reynolds, his fellow owner Rob McElhenney watched on as his side extended their lead over Notts County at the top of the table to four points, thanks to goals from Anthony Forde, James Jones, and Paul Mullin.
Wrexham have continued their march towards promotion to the Football League for the first time since 2008 and their fans at the Racecourse Ground were very delighted with the performance. With Reynolds not attending the match, Mirror Sport have given him a run down of what he missed.
1. Mullen's golden boot quest boosted
After failing to score in the first half, Wrexham put three past their opponents in the second half as Paul Mullen scored his 45th goal of the season, and his 35th in the league.
Forde and Jones scored the first two goals of the game to give Wrexham a 2-0 lead before Mullin added the third.
Ryan Barnett drove down the right hand side and lifted a cross to the back post and Mullin headed in with a looping header.
His battle to top the goalscoring charts with Notts County’s Macaulay Langstaff continues, but the 26-year-old dubbed the ‘non-league Haaland’ leads the way with 41 - with the fight for the golden boot heading into the dying embers of the season.
2. Phil Parkinson surprises a lucky fan
Ahead of today’s game, Wrexham boss Phil Parkinson made the day of one of the club’s young fans. Co-owner Rob McElhenney posted a clip of the gaffer providing a young fan and his mates with the best possible gift for birthday.
They were pictured with Parkinson as he guided them through the tunnel and out into the dugout in the sunshine. The youngsters were even allowed to step onto the pitch as their enjoyed their experience of the life of a professional football player.
McElhenney posted the clip on twitter with the caption “My gaffer”, with a love heart emoji as he acknowledged the kind gesture from Parkinson.
3. Fans sing It's Always Sunny… in Wrexham as fans sing for McElhenney
Reynolds might not have been there, but McElhenney wasn’t alone in the stands.
His cast mates from comedy series It's Always Sunny in Philadelphia were also in attendance. They were part of the partisan crowd that chanted his name before the game began.
Fans debuted the new Reynolds song, which the Deadpool star wrote and released on McElhenney's birthday last week. Twitter account @fearlessidzine posted the clip and write alongside it: "@RMcElhenney enjoying the first Cae Ras airing of 'It's McElhenney' featuring a certain @VancityReynolds."
The actor clapped along with the thousands singing for him as loud chants of “Wrexham! Wrexham!’ rang out immediately after. The star actor stopped to greet some fans before the game as he was seen taking a photo with a young fan.
4. Conor McGregor treats Wrexham fans
There were rumours UFC superstar Conor McGregor might turn up at the iconic Turf Pub before kick off.
McGregor donated £10,000 to the Wrexham-based autism charity Your Space this week - a cause close to Mullin's heart - while also treating fans to his new Nitro Irish Stout.
He didn't get to the Racecourse of Turf Pub this time but McGregor said: “The Wrexham success story is incredible and I can relate to it, that ambition, the hard work and passion to become the very best. I wanted to reward their fans by making them the first to sample my stout on these shores."
Mullin was blown away and added: "I am totally blown away by the generosity of Conor McGregor to reach out and make such a significant donation to Your Space Wales. A charity that is doing amazing work to support families of children with Autism, a charity that is obviously so close to my family's heart, £10,000 is such a significant amount of money to receive and will go a long way to support those who need it."
5. Temporary streaming outage
During the second half of Wrexham’s 1-0 victory, the National League official stream temporarily went down.
Therefore, some fans missed Anthony Forde’s winning goal and were not happy about the technical fault.
“My stream goes down and I miss the goal! Go on Wrexham”, one fan complained on twitter.
