A new Covid variant has been detected in a number of countries and causing concern due to the rate it is spreading. Nicknamed after a mythical two-headed dog, Orthrus, or CH.1.1, is a new Omicron sub-variant.
It has been detected in 66 countries including the USA, Thailand, India, China and Australia as well as the UK. Between them, Kraken and Orthrus now make up 40% of all Covid cases in the UK, according to the UK Health Security Agency.

It is difficult to determine how many cases are currently in the community due to the lack of testing, however, these are the areas of Nottinghamshire with the highest official cases of Covid according to the government website:
5. Selston: Seven cases in the seven days up to January 28 with a case rate of 105 per 100,000 people.
4. Worksop Town & South: Eight cases with a case rate of 110.6
3. Newark South East: 13 cases with a case rate of 131.6
2. Worksop Cheapside: 15 cases with a case rate of 205.2
1. Tuxford, Markham & Rampton: 19 cases with a case rate of 201.4
