Luis Suarez is on the move again.
The Uruguayan's emotional return to his hometown club Nacional was always destined to be for a good time, not a long one, according to the club's president, with the 35-year-old returning home to maintain his fitness ahead of the World Cup.
Suarez has scored four goals in eight appearances for Nacional, form that should be good enough to earn him a place in the squad for Qatar, but with his deal ending at the closure of the Uruguayan season he is set to move back to Europe in the New Year.
"When the Uruguayan Championship ends, Suarez will leave, that’s how we arranged his deal," Nacional president Jose Fuentes told ESPN.
"It’s what we agreed and he made a huge effort to come here.
"I say this to avoid generating fan expectations. Suarez is leaving. We’ve asked him, and he answered the same thing as before."
So with a return to European football on the horizon, where could he end up at the start of 2023?
Let's get wildly speculating.
Aston Villa
Villa were linked with a move for the forward following his departure from Atletico Madrid, although how much of that was just putting Steven Gerrard and Philippe Coutinho together and jumping to a conclusion is up for debate.
A short-term deal could make sense though.
Villa have been struggling to score goals, and with form and fitness concerns around Ollie Watkins and Danny Ings then maybe Suarez could do a job both for and alongside his old Liverpool teammates.
Of course, Gerrard would have to still be in a job by the New Year for it to happen...
Ajax
If he's hell bent on another return to a former employer then perhaps a move back to Ajax could be on the cards for Suarez, 12 years after he left Amsterdam for Liverpool.
The Eredivisie could be a good environment for him at 35 years of age, and with Ajax flush with cash after banking so much money from Manchester United this summer then you'd think wages wouldn't be a problem.
Alfred Schreuder's side are also likely to be in European football at the start of 2023, whether that is in the Champions League or Europa League, and so the added depth to the Dutch champions' squad could come in handy.
Marseille
Another Champions League club this season, the French side have shown a fondness for ageing South Americans with their summer move for Alexis Sanchez, who has started Marseille life impressively.
Igor Tudor's side were strongly linked with Suarez prior to him joining Nacional, and the famously combustible forward would be sure to feed off the often intense atmosphere at the Stade Velodrome.
After all, it worked for Joey Barton.
Nice
Another French side flush with cash, Nice are building a side full of former Premier League stars under the ownership of CEO Jim Ratcliffe, who continues to be linked with buying Manchester United.
Kasper Schmeichel, Aaron Ramsey, Ross Barkley, Nicolas Pepe, Joe Bryan and Morgan Schneiderlin currently call the south of France home, and Suarez would surely be welcomed into a group who have underperformed this season despite their rich array of stars.
Mario Balotelli played for Nice for three seasons, and if it was good enough for him...
Wolves
Okay we'll be honest, there isn't much hope here. We'd just like to see this purely to unite the most ferocious partnership that the world nearly got to see.
It is over 10 years ago now that Liverpool, with Suarez in their ranks, had a bid accepted for Diego Costa by Atletico Madrid, only for the forward to turn down the Reds and eventually join Chelsea a year later.
Now back in the Premier League at Wolves, how about a Costa-Suarez linkup at Molineux? Bruno Lage's side are short of attacking options after all.
No? Well we can all dream.
