The Titans are set to hire 49ers director of player personnel Ran Carthon as their new general manager. ESPN’s Dianna Russini was the first to report the move.
Carthon has been in the 49ers’ front office since 2017, and moved to the director of player personnel role two seasons ago.
His move to a GM job will land the 49ers another compensatory third-round pick as part of the NFL’s expanded Rooney Rule that aims to incentivize teams to groom minority head coach and GM candidates.
Carthon is the fourth such candidate hired away from San Francisco. Robert Saleh and Mike McDaniel were brought on as head coaches by the Jets and Dolphins, respectively. Martin Mayhew was hired out of a VP of player personnel role with the 49ers to be Washington’s GM.
