In February, 49ers wide receiver Deebo Samuel made a bold claim: that San Francisco would have beaten the Eagles by double-digits had quarterback Brock Purdy been healthy in the NFC championship game.
Now, Samuel is facing the consequences of that audacious suggestion.
Asked about his past statements by Zach Gelb of CBS Sports Radio on his eponymous show Monday evening, Samuel appeared to respond by ending the interview.
“I saw what you said about the Eagles back at the Super Bowl,” Gelb said, “where if Brock Purdy didn’t get hurt, you guys would’ve won the game by double-digits. Why would that have been the case?”
“I mean, I said what I said,” Samuel replied.

When Gelb pushed Samuel further, he alluded to the 49ers’ showdown with Philadelphia this coming season on Dec. 3.
“I don’t know. Just wait until Week 13, 12, whatever week it is, and we’ll show you,” he said.
The line then went dead.
Samuel, one of the league’s most versatile offensive weapons, recorded 864 yards from scrimmage in 2022. However, he struggled in the NFC championship, finishing with just 24 scrimmage yards in San Francisco’s 31–7 loss.
