49ers re-sign LB Demetrius Flannigan-Fowles to 1-year deal

The 49ers linebacker depth should be good again in 2022. The club on Friday announced LB Demetrius Flannigan-Fowles signed a one-year contract to stay in San Francisco.

Flannigan-Fowles joined the 49ers as an undrafted safety from Arizona before the 2019 season. He was moved to linebacker that year and spent the season on the practice squad. In 2020 he made the active roster mostly as a special teams contributor.

Last year he played in all 17 games and earned two starts as the club worked around some injuries in the second level. Flannigan-Fowles finished the season with 29 tackles.

He’ll join a linebacking corps that features Fred Warner, Dre Greenlaw and likely Azeez Al-Shaair who’s a restricted free agent. While Flannigan-Fowles may not earn a starting job out of camp, he’ll be a key contributor on special teams with a chance to be the No. 1 LB option off the bench.
