49ers No. 1 pick to practice in time for regular season opener

While rookies like Renardo Green, Dominick Puni, Jacob Cowing, Malik Mustapha and Isaac Guerendo have impressed at different times in the preseason, the San Francisco 49ers have been without their No. 1 pick from the 2024 class for all of the preseason, and most of training camp.

The No. 29 overall pick from the 2024 NFL draft, Ricky Pearsall has been dealing with a shoulder injury that has kept him on the sideline for his rookie preseason campaign. However, the former Florida Gators pass catcher could be making a return to the practice field just in time for the regular season opener.

During a conference call with members of the media on Sunday, head coach Kyle Shanahan revealed Pearsall will make his return to practice on Monday. Pearsall could get two weeks of practice in before the 49ers make their regular season debut against Aaron Rodgers and the New York Jets for Monday Night Football on Sep. 9.

Via @RapSheet on Twitter:

Pearsall played three seasons at Arizona State in the Pac-12 before transferring to the SEC. In two seasons at Florida, Pearsall racked up 91 receptions for 1626 yards with 12 total touchdowns.

Pearsall will have a chance to compete with Cowing and veterans Chris Conley and Trent Taylor for a spot behind Jauan Jennings and Deebo Samuel on San Francisco’s wide receiver depth chart.
