The 49ers had their first major brush with the injury bug in 2023 during their 19-17 loss to the Browns in Week 6.
During the game they lost running back Christian McCaffrey and wide receiver Deebo Samuel. Left tackle Trent Williams missed two plays with an ankle injury, but returned.
After the game Williams was seen in a walking boot and Samuel had x-rays that came back negative.
Head coach Kyle Shanahan didn’t have any updates immediately after the game, but provided some Monday in his conference call with reporters.
Here is all the latest:
WR Deebo Samuel (shoulder)
Shanahan said Samuel got hurt on the first play of the game. He’s considered day-to-day with a left shoulder injury. That would indicate he avoided something major, but Shanahan didn’t specify what the ailment is. Samuel’s status for Week 7 in Minnesota is still up in the air.
RB Christian McCaffrey (oblique, rib)
McCaffrey was in MRIs when Shanahan talked with reporters. The head coach said there wasn’t any clarity on when McCaffrey sustained his rib/oblique injury. The team is unsure what exactly the injury is, but they’ll know once the MRI results are back. He is day-to-day.
LT Trent Williams (ankle)
Williams is considered day-to-day and avoided a high ankle sprain. That’s probably the best news the 49ers could’ve hoped for. His status for Monday night in Minnesota is unclear.
LB Dre Greenlaw (hamstring)
Greenlaw missed Sunday’s game with a hamstring injury. It was a good sign when he practiced Friday, but the team listed him as questionable and he wound up not playing. Shanahan said the hope is for Greenlaw to return for Week 7.
S George Odum (quad)
Odum suffered a quad contusion in Sunday’s loss. He’s considered day-to-day.
