The 49ers managed to get through the first few weeks of the 2023 season without any major injury issues.
Now the bumps and bruises are starting to show with six players either out or limited in Wednesday’s practice ahead of their Week 4 showdown with the Arizona Cardinals.
Buy 49ers TicketsIt’s worth noting one of the players absent was left tackle Trent Williams who received his typical veteran rest day to begin the week.
Here’s a look at the full practice participation report from Wednesday:
Did not participate
LB Dre Greenlaw (ankle)
WR Jauan Jennings (shin)
WR Deebo Samuel (ribs, knee)
LT Trent Williams (not injury related – resting player)
The ankle issue is something Greenlaw is working through after getting banged up in the 49ers’ Week 3 win over the Giants. Samuel was dealing with a rib injury after he landed on the football while getting tackled, but the knee injury is something new. Head coach Kyle Shanahan on Wednesday said the knee issue “was something we didn’t really know until the next day later in that day. Just him being sore and stuff. He didn’t realize it until later.”
Limited participation
WR Brandon Aiyuk (shoulder)
CB Ambry Thomas (knee)
Both Aiyuk and Thomas missed Thursday’s game with these ailments. That they’re back practicing even in a limited fashion is a good sign that they’re trending the right way. The team may limit them throughout the week if they believe it’ll have them fully healthy for Sunday.
Full participation
LB Demetrius Flannigan-Fowles (ankle)
Flannigan-Fowles was banged up Thursday, but good to practice in full Wednesday.
