The Arizona Cardinals are not in the postseason. They are preparing for free agency and the NFL draft.
But some future Cardinals might be in the playoffs. The San Francisco 49ers and Detroit Lions play in the NFC Championship Game and have players set to become free agents.
Below are some 49ers players scheduled to become free agents in March, fill needs the Cardinals have and could be targets.
DE Chase Young
Young comes to an end of his rookie contract. He was the second overall pick in 2020 and is a very talented pass rusher but injuries have kept him from having more than 7.5 sacks in a season — his rookie year and this year.
After getting traded to the 49ers, he had five sacks in seven games.
The Cardinals are desperate for pass-rushing talent. Young is a high-ceiling player who perhaps won’t command top money.
DT Sebastian Joseph-Day
Joseph-Day played most of the season for the Chargers but was released in December and signed by the Niners. He had three sacks and 36 tackles on the season.
He has been a starter his whole career and the Cardinals need starting-caliber defensive linemen.
TE Charlie Woerner
Woerner is a blocking tight end. The Cardinals need a blocking tight end.
DT Javon Kinlaw
Kinlaw has been a disappointment of a first-round pick for the Niners but played all 17 games of the season for the first time in his career.
He had 3.5 sacks in 2023.
