49ers star receiver Deebo Samuel exited Sunday’s contest against the Buccaneers after suffering an apparent lower-body injury. He was subsequently declared out by the team with an ankle injury.
NFL Network’s Tom Pelissero later reported Samuel is believed to have avoided a major injury, and is still undergoing further testing. After the game, 49ers coach Kyle Shanahan confirmed Samuel suffered a left ankle injury, and noted that the team believes it is “most likely” a high ankle sprain, per ESPN’s Jeff Darlington.
Shanahan also told reporters the 26-year-old didn’t break his ankle, but added that the club is still “not sure” about the extent of the injury.
