49ers avoid further catastrophe on starting OL for Week 17 vs. Lions

The San Francisco 49ers avoided an even steeper catastrophe on their offensive line Monday night.

Starting offensive lineman Colton McKivitz is officially active for the 49ers after being listed as ‘questionable’ on the Week 17 injury report because of a knee injury that cropped up during the week of practice. He was a non-participant in the final two sessions of the week, lending some concern that his injury may force him out of the starting lineup for the 49ers’ final home game of the 2024 campaign.

Starting left tackle Trent Williams (ankle) and starting left guard Aaron Banks (knee) are already on IR. Backup left tackle Jaylon Moore (quad) is also on IR, and third-string left tackle Spencer Burford is inactive because of a calf injury he sustained in Week 16. That means the 49ers are down to their fourth-string left tackle, so needing to also fill in for McKivitz would have only exacerbated an already massive issue for San Francisco.

Here are the other inactives for Week 17:

QB Brandon Allen (QB3)
CB Charvarius Ward (personal)
LB Dre Greenlaw (calf)
OL Spencer Burford (calf)
DL Robert Beal Jr. (ankle)
DL Khalil Davis
RB Israel Abanikanda

Safety Ji’Ayir Brown and linebacker Tatum Bethune are both active after being listed as questionable on the injury report. Bethune has been out since Week 12 with a knee injury. He was activated off IR before Monday’s game. Brown was working through an ankle injury.
