A 40-year-old woman from Jefferson County, Pennsylvania, died Saturday from complications associated with measles, county Coroner Greg Furlong confirmed. It is the third measles-related death reported in the state this year and the first outside Lancaster County.
Furlong said the woman was unvaccinated and developed symptoms after known exposures. He told The Philadelphia Inquirer that her death certificate lists acute on chronic hypoxemic and hypercapnic respiratory failure caused by suspected measles, chronic obstructive pulmonary disease and asthma, with supplemental oxygen dependence as a contributing condition.
