4 games Bears fans should watch during Week 5’s mini-bye

The Chicago Bears sit at 1-4 after defeating the Washington Commanders, 40-20, on Thursday Night Football. And now, Bears fans can enjoy a Sunday and Monday of NFL action without worrying about their team.

With Chicago playing on Thursday, they have a mini bye week of sorts, which means there’s no Bears football this weekend. But there’s still plenty of NFL action to keep busy with, including some NFC North contests, future opponents and some high-profile matchups.

Here’s a look at four games Bears fans should tune into during Week 5:

Panthers at Lions

Bob Donnan-USA TODAY Sports

Sunday, 12 p.m. CT, FOX

Even after getting their first win of the season, the Bears still have a chance to hold on to the No. 1 pick after this week. Chicago holds the Panthers’ first-round pick in next year’s draft, and there’s a good chance it could wind up being a top-five selection when all is said and done. The Bears will need to root for their division foes, the Lions, to help keep Carolina winless and that top pick in Chicago’s possession.

Chiefs at Vikings

Bob Donnan-USA TODAY Sports

Sunday, 3:25 p.m. CT, CBS

The Bears are getting some much-needed rest ahead of their next matchup against the Vikings on Oct. 15. Chicago will get a good look at their division foes, who have struggled this season with a 1-3 record. The Bears know first hand the difficulty playing the Chiefs, and the hope is Kansas City will deliver the Vikings a loss and put Chicago and Minnesota on even ground heading into Week 6.

Cowboys at 49ers

Cary Edmondson-USA TODAY Sports

Sunday, 7:20 p.m. CT, NBC

Chicago doesn’t face either of these teams this season, but this is easily the game of the week in the NFL. Two of the NFC’s best teams in the 49ers and Cowboys will go head-to-head in prime time. San Francisco is one of just two undefeated teams left in the league, and they’ll be looking to improve to 5-0 behind a productive offense and dominant defense. Meanwhile, Dallas is looking to prove they can contend for the NFC, and a win over a great 49ers team would be impressive.

Packers at Raiders

USA Today Sports

Monday, 7:15 p.m. CT, ESPN/ABC

Finally, Bears fans catch a look at one of their next opponents in the Raiders as they battle the hated Packers on Monday Night Football. Chicago will face Las Vegas in Week 7, where the Bears might be looking to extend a winning streak (if they beat the Vikings in Week 6). This game will provide a good look at an upcoming opponent, featuring Jimmy Garoppolo and Davante Adams. Plus, as Bears fans, our second favorite team is always the team playing the Packers.
