JAIPUR: Four armed robbers stormed into a newly-opened jewellery shop near Paldi Meena area under the Kho Nagoriyan police station on Thursday afternoon and fled in a car with gold, silver and Rs 50,000.
According to additional DCP (East) Avnish Kumar Sharma, the incident took place shortly after 1.50PM when one of the suspects entered the shop while posing as a customer.
He asked the salesman to show him some rings. As the first suspects tried one ring after the other, three of his aides soon joined him. One of the robbers put a desi katta (country-made gun) on the owner’s head, while three others packed jewellery and silver ornaments in different bags.
The accused also threatened the shop owner and his staff to remain mum and not to resist. The accused then robbed Rs 50,000 from the shop and fled in a car that was parked right outside the shop. A terrified shop owner alerted the police about the incident. Several police teams landed at the shop in quick succession.
The Jaipur police said that a heightened check and search operation is underway in the city. Similarly, a team of crime branch officials from the police commissionerate was dispatched to the shop.
“The jewellery shop had opened about two months ago. We are examining CCTVs around it to zero in on the suspects. We have set up multiple checkpoints near Agra road to stop the vehicle,” said the officer, adding that the accused had come with pre-meditated plans.
