36yo goes to her room at night after a day of chaos with sister’s kids. Then her mother barges in to tell her ‘you’re the rudest person I’ve ever met’

One Redditor recently found herself in the middle of a family conflict simply because she chose to read in her room rather than entertain her sister’s children. The Reddit post is a classic example of the clash between personal boundaries and familial expectations. The original poster, who goes by the username Lveme_hteme, took to the r/AmItheAsshole subreddit to ask, “AITA for reading before bed instead of spending time with my niece and nephew?”

The author narrates how she is living with her parents at age 36 for financial reasons, and noted, “I love my parents and for the most part I don’t mind living with them. However, they bicker and argue over the dumbest and littlest things.” Between her father’s denial about needing hearing aids and the high television volume, she finds the house quite loud. When her sister, a school teacher, visited with her 11-year-old niece and 7-year-old nephew, the noise levels only increased.
