If you love a cheeky McDonald's, then take note - the fast food giant has given eligible customers a three-week warning that it is set to axe a popular deal in its UK restaurants, takeaways and drive-thrus. The change takes place from March 31.
This month is the last one that NHS staff can enjoy 20% off at the popular food outlet. The special discount, which began in July 2021, is set to finish at the end of March.
When the discount was launched, McDonald's said it was thanking anyone working in emergency services, including the NHS, police, fire, social care sector and armed forces with a 20% discount for NHS staff to use when purchasing food through its app. Steve Bater, spokesperson at NHS Money Saving blog NHS Discount Offers, said: "We've had a good run with this deal but it's a real shame that the McDonald's discount is set to end on March 31 so time is really ticking for NHS staff to get their 20% off their favourite meals."

He added: "The McDonald's 20% discount has been one of the most popular food discounts for NHS staff to take advantage of in the last year or so and it's been a great way for NHS staff to save on their McDonald's takeaways. The cost of living crisis continues and every little helps as we look to save money wherever we can. It's really appreciated that McDonald's have been helping NHS staff save.
"It's been a really kind gesture from the fast food giant and we appreciate them continuing to run the discount for staff until the end of this month."
The Echo has reported how NHS staff can get 20% off at McDonald's until the end of the month. Here's what you need to do:
- Simply sign up to the McDonald's app with your NHS email address
- Wait approximately 48 hours for the offer to appear in the deals section of the app
- Use the deal when required
- You can only use the deal one day a week (refreshes every Monday)
Police, armed forces personnel, social care workers and fire service staff can also claim the offer. Full terms of the McDonald's NHS offer can be found here.
