There is a natural tendency to want to pair up former USC wide receiver Jordan Addison with the Pittsburgh Steelers. Given Addison played with Steelers quarterback Kenny Pickett at Pitt two seasons ago. Here are three things to consider if you are talking about Addison re-joining his former teammate.
It would make Kenny Pickett happy
There is certainly a case to be made that giving Kenny Pickett his favorite college target would be great for his development. The chemistry between a quarterback and receiver is vital for an offense’s success.
Creates a problem with distribution of labor
If the Steelers drafted Addison it might make Pickett happy but it isn’t going to make the other Steelers skill players happy. Diontae Johnson, George Pickens and Pat Freiermuth form an impressive trio and all the weapons Pickett needs. This is in addition to Najee Harris and Jaylen Warren in the backfield. Adding Addison to the fold just further complicates things.
Any wide receiver early is a huge gamble
Spending a first-round pick on a wide receiver ignores some legitimate NFL draft needs with the No. 17 overall pick. I firmly believe the Steelers will add a wide receiver but this team finds guys in the middle rounds, they don’t spend important draft capital on the position.
