3 new to Paramount+ movies you need to stream this weekend (March 27-29)

Paramount Plus logo on a magenta background.

Paramount+ is a great streaming service for your next movie marathon. It adds dozens of movies a month, many on the first day of the new month. But sometimes, it will add a new movie later on in the month, and this week, it just added one of the biggest horror movies of the year so far: "Primate."

So with this many newly added movies to choose from, it can be tough to know where to start. I've looked through the full list, though, and found the three movies you need to watch first this weekend. All three secured multiple Academy Award nominations in their respective years; combined, they have 28 Oscar nominations and three wins. So trust me when I say that these movies are of the highest quality.

I will caveat that these movies all arrive on March 1, though, so maybe block out your calendar for a lazy Sunday once you're done reading this article. Here are the three new to Paramount+ movies you need to be streaming this weekend.

'Primate' (2026)

Genre: Horror

What's it about? A family living in Hawaii has an adopted pet chimpanzee that gets bitten by a rabid mongoose and suddenly becomes violent. It does not go well.

Why you should watch it: If you thought that "Planet of the Apes" was a scary monkey movie, then "Primate" will have you terrified. Sure, all of human civilization doesn't end, but the brutal deaths in this movie will be plenty horrifying.

'The Banshees of Inisherin' (2022)

Genre: Black tragicomedy

What's it about? Colin Farrell and Brendan Gleeson star in "The Banshees of Inisherin" as Pádraic and Colm. These two residents of the small Irish isle have been lifelong friends until one day in 1923 when they weren't. That moment would prove to have disastrous consequences.

Why you should watch it: This movie should have won Best Picture in 2023, but it lost out to Everything Everywhere All at Once. Still, there's no denying this movie is a masterpiece. Something magical happens when Farrell and Gleeson pair together with writer/director Martin McDonagh, who has a new movie coming out later this year with Sam Rockwell and John Malkovich.

'Supercop' (1992)

Genre: Action

What's it about? In this third installment of the "Police Story" franchise, Hong Kong "supercop" Chan Ka-Kui (Jackie Chan) goes undercover to take down a drug cartel. He's not going it alone, though. Alongside him is Chinese policewoman Jessica Yang (Michelle Yeoh), and she can handle herself just fine.

Why you should watch it: Today, Chan is beloved for being a buddy cop action star, and Yeoh is an Academy Award winner. But decades after this movie, also known as "Police Story 3," debuted in theaters, it is still a must-watch for fans of the acting legends.
